A Personal Finance Blog by a Twenty Something Filipina

An Introduction

Well, I suck at managing money, along with thousands of other millennials. So at least I’m not the only one lamenting over this problem. But that’s not really a good thing now, is it? Ugh.

2015 was a good year for me financially because that was my first year of having a job and I was able to put PHP 100, 000 in my savings account. 2016 was more of spending all of those savings and then some to travel to three different countries and have a smaller savings account than what I started that year. 2017 is… well, I’m feeling the burn of the expenses I made last year and since I also just got back from travelling… My savings is still not as healthy as I want it to be. I’m aiming to save PHP 175, 000 this year and I have a long, long, long way to go. Like, a really long way to go.

That’s how my financial situation is at, in a nutshell. And which is why I created this blog. This blog will serve to document my journey to financial freedom and will lay witness on whether or not I’ll be able to accomplish my financial goals. My financial goals for this year are:

  • Pay off all debts by this year – all 30K of it. It’s mostly monthly payments for my camera and phone, and some clothes so it’s not that heavy.
  • Have 175K in the savings account before the year ends.
  • Get a credit card. I know most financial blogs are like “Don’t get a credit card!” but maybe I’ll make a post on why I’ll get one.
  • Have a few steady sidelines.

I know the blogging community is a tight-knit, supportive one which is I don’t mind putting this up in public, although a part of me is thinking that I’ll regret it one way or the other. I also don’t know any Filipino bloggers who talk about this – seriously, guys, it’s not taboo – so if you know any, kindly let me know. While there are amazing financial blogs, there are mostly run by Americans and some are just not relatable to me, as someone from another country. Like, I don’t know what a 401K is but I keep reading about it. So that’s it for now.

I’m RA, and I hope you enjoy reading along my financial diaries.
